Assistant Professor of Foundation, Greta Bank

March 24 through April 29, Speedwell Contemporary presents Deep Fake, a solo exhibition by Greta Bank, Assistant Professor of Foundation at Maine College of Art & Design.

Deep Fake is described as, “an immersive installation inspired by what was a Super Volcano over 400 million years ago. By embracing the destructive power and transformation of change, as studied in geologic time, the volcano is a portal for grief and reconciliation as seen through mass extinction.”

Banks is a multidisciplinary artist who describes her work as visual essays, prompting social inquiry and reflection on diverse matters such as environmental corruption, mass consumption, and social constructs. She has exhibited at SPACE Gallery, the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, and most recently the Hunterdon Museum.

Speedwell Contemporary is an artist-run, nonprofit gallery that promotes the work of women who have made a lifetime commitment to their practice. Gallery hours vary, and may be found on Speedwell’s website.
