Bob Jenkins, Associate Professor of Academic Studies and Art Education, who also teaches at the University of Maine at Farmington, teamed up with his UMF colleague Dr. Margaret Griswold to craft a four-course graduate-level program to generate math specialists for K-12 classrooms. The course was designed to include three blended full-day face- to-face sessions, with the remainder of the course to be online. It is now a certificate program at the graduate level for UMF. Several of the certificate earners are now actively coaching other teachers in math instruction in the public school setting, and further geographic expansion is expected in the future.
