Robert Sullivan has worked as a staff illustrator for William Arthur, Inc. and as a freelance illustrator represented by ARCO, New York, whose clients have included Viking/Penquin, McGraw‐Hill, and Disney/Hyperion among others. He is also an active painter who has had a number of solo shows. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, and earned his AA from Pratt Institute in illustration and graphic design, with highest honors; his BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York; and his MFA at the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University.

Rob is an avid runner and tennis player. He also considers himself a J.R.R. Tolkien scholar, having read The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy once a year every year for 15 years in a row. He is a wine aficionado who worked as an assistant winemaker for five years.
