Leslie Murray earned her BFA from MECA and her Master’s from New York University. Her work has been exhibited at the Institute of Contemporary Art at MECA, the Michael Rosenthal Gallery, and the Schoolhouse Gallery. Her paintings incorporate a formal landscape space and question identity and belonging within a more artificial and superficial sense of place. Her work hinges on the translation between what exists in the physical world and the imagined, shining augmentation of the natural. She is interested in the landscape as not simply what we observe in the natural world, but as a way of seeing—interpreting and ascribing values to social and cultural constructs.
