The Alumni Residency at MECA&D is designed to bring degree-holding alumni back to the College each summer for four weeks in July to re-engage in intensive on-campus experiences in conjunction with the MFA Summer Intensive.
Applicants must be graduates from the BFA, MFA, or MAT Programs at Maine College of Art & Design. For BFA alumni, in particular, these four weeks at MECA&D offer an ideal opportunity to experience graduate school. Priority is given to individual artists rather than groups or collectives.
Non graduated alums, SALT graduates, Post Baccalaureate graduates, Continuing Studies faculty and students are ineligible to apply.

Studio Space
Alumni Residents receive access to one of the MECA&D studios for the length of the residency. If interested in additional access, residents are responsible for associated studio lab fees ($85-$325).
Learning Opportunities
MFA Alumni Residents receive at least one studio visit from a MFA Visiting Artist during the course of the residency. Alumni will be invited to participate in some classroom discussions and activities.
Priority is given to individual artist applications rather than groups or collectives.
If more than one person is applying for the residency, the group should select a lead contact person. The lead contact person should submit a single application, a combined statement of purpose for the entire group, and is responsible for including all group members’ documents (resume, work samples, etc) into the application.

Deadline
Applications for the 2023 Residency season open on January 1st, 2023. The deadline for 2023 applications is 11:59PM EST on February 28, 2023. Notification of awards will be made in mid-April 2023. Applications for the 2024 season will open January 1st, 2024.
Review Process
A review committee comprised of the Alumni Relations & Events Coordinator, a past resident, a representative from the MFA program, and one member of the MECA&D community will will make the selections.
Residencies will be determined based on the quality of work submitted, evidence that the applicant’s career will benefit from the residency, that the nature and span of proposed projects fit within the space and time limitations of the residency, that the proposed projects will fit within the scope of the MFA program and that the applicant is able to work independently and responsibly.
