Students will learn where to find sounds and how to record their own for sound design. Students will be introduced to array of digital processing tools built into DAWs, including EQ, reverb, compression, as well as other dynamic, filter, and delay effects. The Personal Essay
In this week-long intensive class, we'll dive into the art of the personal essay. By the end of the class, you will have crafted a new personal essay of 3,000-4,000 words. Building toward this final essay, we'll develop a range of essential skills: distinguishing the various 'selves' inhabiting our essay; crafting vivid, sense-rich scenes of experience; identifying guiding questions; and writing honest personal reflections that will surprise you and the reader. In class we will undertake a range of writing exercises, analyze exceptional essays, and workshop exercises and essay drafts. We will also cover other formal and ethical concerns involved in writing about our lives, and explore steps we can take to expand the scope of our writing project from a single essay to a book-length memoir.
