Jenny Scheinman

Kannapolis: A Moving Portrait

Jenny Scheinman will give a lecture discussing the vision behind Kannapolis: A Moving Portrait and the inspiration for her live score in Osher Hall at 12:30pm on Thursday, March 9. Further information about the artist, her project, and upcoming performance can be found at Portland Ovations.

Free and open to the public.

"In her new multi-media project, acclaimed composer, singer, and violinist Jenny Scheinman invites us into the captivating visual world of Depression-era filmmaker H. Lee Waters. Scheinman is joined by guitarist Robbie Fulks (who is “so good, it’s scary” according to The Chicago Tribune) and banjoist Robbie Gjersoe to create a live soundtrack of new folksongs, fiddle music, and field sounds to accompany this fascinating footage of small town America, masterfully reworked into a new film by director Finn Taylor. The humanity in these songs and images bares a transcendent, universal quality that speaks to any community."
