Artists of Promise - Maine College of Art

MECA’s Artists of Promise program is designed for students who have an interest and passion for visual art, digital media, and/or design who have demonstrated academic achievement on the SAT. Artists of Promise is open to identified students who are high school seniors applying for their first year in college at MECA in Fall 2019.

The Artists of Promise program offers a simplified application process to our Bachelor of Fine Arts program and aims to eliminate potential barriers to furthering an education in the arts. Artists of Promise have access to:

+ A streamlined application process with no fee, and which waives the essay requirement and letters of recommendation. Students will submit the application, a portfolio, and high school transcripts for a complete application.
+ A minimum merit scholarship of $10,000 upon acceptance to MECA, renewable annually for each of four years at MECA.
+ Individualized guidance throughout the application process from our staff of Admissions professionals, many of whom are practicing artists!

How to Apply

+ Submit the online Artists of Promise application, which will be sent via email. You do not need to submit any other application for admission to Maine College of Art.

+ Submit your portfolio via Slideroom, URL, or have your portfolio reviewed in person at a National Portfolio Day, regional portfolio day, or visit MECA for a portfolio review on campus.

+ Contact your guidance counselor or other official representative to request that your official high school transcripts be sent to the MECA Admissions Office. Transcripts will be considered official if they arrive to MECA in an envelope that is stamped and sealed by the issuing institution. Applicants may also hand-deliver transcripts as long as they are in an unopened envelope stamped and sealed by the issuing institution.

Applicants may also opt to send an official scored report of the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or High School Equivalency Test (HiSET).

Official transcripts and/or equivalent documentation can be mailed to:
Maine College of Art
Attn: Undergraduate Admissions
522 Congress Street
Portland, Maine 04101

We will also accept official transcripts sent by the issuing institution through Parchment, or the National Student Clearinghouse Transcript Service.

+ Artists of Promise applicants may also choose to submit an essay or letters of recommendation, but it is not required. To submit these materials, follow the instructions below:

Essay: You may submit essays by mail to the address below, or via email to admissions@meca.edu. If you submit your essay by email, please include your full name and program you are applying to.

Letters from family members are not accepted. Recommendations will be considered official when they arrive in an unopened envelope directly from the recommender or via an official school or organization email operated by the recommender to admissions@meca.edu.
