Illustration MECA&D is pleased to announce that renowned illustrator/artist Henrik Drescher and Wu Wing Yee will be visiting Maine College of Art & Design this October. Henrik Drescher will be giving a lecture at the Portland Public Library on October 6th to which all of the MECA&D community is invited. Henrik will also be conducting a three day workshop with our illustration majors - a once in a life time opportunity! Henrik is visiting the states to promote the work of his new book China Days.

Throughout the years, Henrik Drescher has been working on note books, found, aged papers and objects. His approach is casual and spontaneous. He is sensitive to and inspired by all things around his life. These note books have functioned as pool of ideas that have spilled into his assignments, artist books as well as drawings, paintings and mixed-media work.

Born in Copenhagen (1955), Henrik Drescher and his family immigrated to the United States in 1967. He studied briefly for one semester at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston (1974) and began working in illustration around Boston. A world traveler, Henrik traveled throughout the United States, Mexico, and Europe, lived in Bali and New Zealand before moving to Dali, Yunnan province (close to Tibet and Laos) which is now his home-base with partner Wu Wing Yee. Henrik is currently artist-in-residence at the Danish Design School in Copenhagen.

Wu Wing Yee's work reflects a life of travel and exploration. She works in sculptures, painting, drawing, mix-media and installation. Her Chinese background has provided her inexhaustible nutrients to create contemporary artwork musing on a culture that is 4000 years old.

Wu Wing Yee was born in Hong Kong and educated in Hong Kong as well as the United States. Returning to Hong Kong from the United States in 1996, she engaged in full-time creative work, founding her own workshop as well as teaching ceramic sculpture in museums and art centers. Her sculptures are in the collections of various museums and private collections worldwide. Working as a full time artist, she divides her time between Hong Kong, China and North America.
