Maine College of Art & Design presents The 2023 Fashion Show
The 2023 Textile & Fashion Design event will take place May 5, 2023
PORTLAND, ME — April 26, 2023 — Maine College of Art & Design is proud to present the annual Fashion Show will take place on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 7:30pm. The Fashion Show exhibits and celebrates work created in the College’s Textile & Fashion Design BFA major while also raising funds for student scholarships.
A companion to the yearly BFA Thesis Exhibition, The Fashion Show provides an opportunity for students to show off their work outside the confines of the gallery. Additional BFA thesis work will also be exhibited in the 2023 BFA Thesis Exhibition, which is on view beginning May 12, 2023.
Garments in the show are created from scratch, including the design and creation of the fabrics themselves through techniques such as screen printing, digital textile design, weaving, dyeing, crochet, machine knitting, embroidery, quilting, and appliqué. From striking swimwear to audacious formalwear, students design for diverse body types, gender identities, and formats of expression.
“Students in the Textile & Fashion Design program use their mastery of craft to solve design problems.” said Alysha Kupferer, Chair and Assistant Professor of Textile & Fashion Design. “These students are makers who understand the communicative potential and transformative power of textiles as an artistic medium."
The Fashion Show will take place at the Institute of Contemporary Art at Maine College of Art & Design (522 Congress Street, Portland, ME). This event is made possible through the support of the following sponsors: Kyocera; Bangor Savings Bank; Jill McGown; Suger; Waypoint; Philadelphia Insurance Companies; M&T Bank; Mascoma; Jensen Baird; Delta Dental; MMA Clark; Joseph’s of Portland; Edison Press; Plant Office; Zane; Bath Savings; Allagash; Northland; UCU; USI Insurance Services; and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.
