Thank you to the friends, family, and greater creativity community for making the 111th Maine College of Art & Design last Friday so special for our graduating classes.
We are grateful for commencement speaker Mohamad Hafez, Hon. DFA ’22, who reminded graduates of the unique power, position, and responsibility they hold to uplift the voices too often silenced around them. We are inspired by encouragement from Prof. Ben Spalding MFA ’17 to always push boundaries and keep things weird. We are moved by BFA speaker Helena Jefferson ’22 requesting the audience to reflect upon and hug the younger versions of themselves that made the day possible.
All together, the event was a beautiful and moving reminder of all the strength, endurance, growth, and overwhelming potential represented in this incredible cohort.
As President Freid exclaimed in her address, “To the amazing, awesome, courageous, and talented Class of 2022—CONGRATULATIONS!”
