student affairs
:
career services
A broad range of career services
is available to students throughout their entire four years
and beyond. From their first year at the College, students
are encouraged to articulate their career aspirations, to
consider how their academic activities contribute to achieving
these, and to develop concrete post-graduate career plans.
Career services offered through the Student Affairs Office
include workshops on resume and interviewing skills, grant writing, pricing work, portfolio development and basic business skills; job listings; and a career and graduate school library. The seminar segment of the major also covers professional skills development. Faculty advisors also actively assist students in formulating and carrying out their career plans.
Internships
Internships are
available in a wide range of both studio and art administration
settings, and provide opportunities for students to explore
first-hand the different venues in which their art knowledge
and skills may be applied. Students may receive course credit
while gaining professional, hands-on experience while building
relationships with practicing professionals. Not infrequently,
internships lead to summer or post-graduation employment opportunities,
and become the basis for life- and career-defining decisions.
If you are interested in doing an internship, contact the
Student Affairs Office for information on available placements or to establish a new internship position.
To be eligible, a student must be in good academic standing
(cumulative GPA of at least 2.0). All internship applications
must be completed submitted for approval by the Dean of the College
by the deadlines
that are printed in the Academic Calendar.
Additionally, through our service learning program, students can utilize educational
internships and a variety of other community partnerships to
explore the role of artist-citizen in the community.
