Call to Printmakers: 4th Annual MECA Alumni Print Session
October 10-12, 2008

All degree-holding alumni with printmaking experience are invited to apply to participate in the 4th Annual Alumni Print Session at Maine College of Art. Participants work in relationship to a theme generated by the Visiting Artist to create 20 portfolios containing 11 prints each, including one master print by each participating artist. Several past participants will be on hand to provide studio assistance. At the end of the session each artist will receive one of the portfolios. The remaining portfolios will be donated to the MECA Annual Fund, the college library, and the printmaking department. In years past, this project has been an invigorating and inspiring
experience for all participants, creating an arena for the exchange of ideas between alumni.

The 2008 Alumni Print Session Visiting Artist will be Vasilios Gletsos ‘01. His selected theme is "Versus."

This event will begin with an off-site dinner orientation on the evening of Friday, October 10th from 6:00 - 9:00pm. Printmaking will take place on October 11th and 12th from 9:00am-5:00pm in the MECA printmaking studio. The studio fee for the Print Session is $35.00 per person and will cover the inks and studio supplies needed for monoprinting. Paper and plexiglass plates have been donated to the project. Gocco and Prontoprint processes may also be used for an additional supply fee.

The Alumni Print Session was created by Gina Adams ’02, Jill Dalton ’99, and Printmaking Professor Elizabeth Jabar to offer a collaborative studio opportunity to our alumni. The first Alumni Print Session took place in 2004, and the project has grown into one of our most esteemed alumni events. The 2007 Print Session is currently on view in an exhibition called “Contemporary Collaborations: Artist and Master Printer,” curated by Bruce Brown at the Portland Museum of Art and has been accepted as a part of their permanent collection.
