Jeffrey Clancy, Associate Professor

Jeffrey Clancy

Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Jeffrey Clancy is a visual artist, designer and educator whose studio practice is informed by historical and traditional craft practices and theory. His involvement in this field, his knowledge and manual skill set, have thus put him in a position in which he is able to question his own medium. In so doing he creates objects that leave the observer in doubt, and he poses questions that allow the significant diversity of craft based objects to be brought into circulation.

Clancy is represented by Gallerie Elisa Plateau, Brussels, Belgium, has been awarded The Society of Arts and Crafts Artist Award, Boston, MA. Recent exhibitions include Vestige, a solo exhibition at Gallery 37-A, Portland, ME; Art Brussels, 2010; Generously Odd: Craft Now, Lexington Art League, Lexington, KY; Re-make / Re-model, National Ornamental Metal Museum, Memphis, TN; Exterior / Ulterior National Ornamental Metal Museum, Memphis, TN; “Exhibition in Print 2010, Neo-Palatial: A Curatorial Imaginarium,” Guest Curator Garth Clark, Metalsmith Magazine. Clancy was awarded funding through the Maine Arts Commission in 2008 and currently holds faculty appointments at Maine College of Art and Rhode Island School of Design.
