Adults 18 or older may register for Continuing Studies adult courses. Full payment must accompany your registration. We accept checks or money orders, cash, and VISA or Mastercard. A $30.00 fee will be charged for checks returned for insufficient funds. You will be emailed a confirmation of your registration that includes your student ID.

How to register

  1. Online
    Online registration is now available through MECA's new online store!
    Continuing Studies students can now register for classes easily and securely online.  In the store, students can browse courses, receive recommendations and check available spots left in a course. 

    Visit the new store and Register Online. Explore the more than 80 courses that are being offered in the upcoming Winter Session. The session begins January 24, 2011. Be sure to register early as classes fill quickly. Thank you for your continued support of Continuing Studies courses!

Registration Deadlines
Classes that do not meet minimum enrollment requirements will be cancelled, usually one week before the class begins, so please register promptly.

 

Selecting a Course
If you have any questions about which course or level of study is appropriate for you, please call the Continuing Studies Office at 207.699.5061. We will be happy to discuss the courses with you. Beginning classes are designated as 100 level courses and are recognizable through the course title. Intermediate and advanced courses are designated by 200 course numbers and require previous experience. Specific requirements can be found in the course description.

Access to Studio Buildings/I.D. Cards
The Maine College of Art studios and classrooms are available to you during your scheduled class or lab times only. Please present your student ID to security personnel when requested. Borrowing privileges at the Joanne Waxman Library are available during your enrollment in an adult course. Not applicable to weekend workshops or one-day classes. Please present your student ID to Library staff.

Third Party Payments
If an agency, company, or school is paying for your course, an official purchase order or authorization, or full payment must accompany your registration.

Conditions
Adults 18 or older may register for Continuing Studies adult courses. Students under 18 require special permission of the Director or Assistant Director of Continuing Studies. MECA reserves the right to cancel courses, substitute instructors, change course times, and limit enrollment. The student agrees to abide by any and all rules of the College. MECA will assume no responsibility for any loss, personal or physical. With enrollment, a student consents to being photographed in classes or at student activities on or off campus. These photographs may be used by MECA in future promotional efforts without specific written permission from the student.

Access to Studio Buildings
MECA studios and classrooms are available to you during your scheduled class or lab times only.

Withdrawal and Refund Policy
If you withdraw from a course at least six business days prior to the first class, you will receive a 100% refund of tuition and your studio fee. If you withdraw five business days or less before the first class, you will receive a refund of 50% of tuition. There are no refunds once a class begins. If MECA cancels a course, all fees will be refunded. Unless you have notified the Continuing Studies office of your withdrawal, no refunds will be issued. Refunds may take up to four weeks to process. Special restrictions apply to certain off-campus programs. Please see the course description for details. If you think your circumstances warrant special consideration, you may send a letter of appeal to the Director of Continuing Studies. Appeals should be postmarked within 14 days of withdrawal.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
Credit for completion of Continuing Studies courses is offered in the form of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in our adult program. One CEU is issued for ten hours of class participation. You will be sent a statement of CEUs earned after you complete a course. Participants do not earn CEUs or credit in youth program classes, with the exception of the Pre-College program. Students who complete the Pre-College program earn 4 academic credits.

Transcripts
Official transcripts are available at no charge upon written request to the Continuing Studies Office.

Library Privileges
MECA's Joanne Waxman Library is one of the largest independent libraries in Northern New England and a major resource of materials on art and design in the region. Its collections number approximately 33,000 volumes and 100 periodicals as well as videos and other materials. In addition, the library houses a Special Collection room, containing, among other items, examples of 19th century publications in the arts and a collection of artists' books; the library also maintains a collection of 55,000 slides. The Library provides access to a suite of online resources, which include online periodical indices and image resources, at library.MECA.edu.

The Library is open to the public. Members of the general public can obtain a library card for an annual fee of $50 ($25 for seniors).

Borrowing privileges are extended to adult students for the duration of the course in which they are enrolled (not applicable to weekend workshops). Please present your course confirmation letter to Library staff for a temporary library card.

Persons with Disabilities Access to CS Program
Maine College of Art respects and values people with disabilities.  In addition, Maine College of Art is required under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1974 and the American with Disabilities Act of 1990 and 2008, to provide reasonable accommodations for people with documented disabilities.  To request accommodations, please contact Melvin Adams, Director of Student Affairs, at madams@MECA.edu at least three weeks prior to your scheduled course.

Tuition Discount for Visual Arts Teachers Grades K-12
Visual arts teachers employed at least 20 hours/week on a regular basis during the school year receive a 50% discount on tuition for up to two Continuing Studies courses per session, not including travel programs and where noted. Verification of current employment (on school letterhead, signed by a school official) must accompany your registration form each session. You will be sent a statement of CEUs earned after you complete the course. Please note we cannot apply discounts via online registration.

Tuition Discount for MECA Graduates
Maine College of Art degree-program alumni receive a 35% tuition discount on any Continuing Studies course for up to two courses per session, except for travel programs and where noted. Please note we cannot apply discounts via online registration.
