Gary Ambrose

Gary Ambrose is a sculptor whose work and inspiration originates through involvement and participation in the natural world. Both materials and form serve as catalyst for imagery that leads the viewer to spatial and conceptual awareness of our unique and shared moment in time. By movement in the vocabulary of mountain and ocean landscape he seeks a feeling of import and a moment of mystery in form and material. In the act of choosing limb or stone, and in the act of studio work, comes an understanding and connection to contemporary life.

His work has been exhibited at The International Sculpture Center, Hamilton, NJ; The Art Gallery, The University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH; The Blaine House, Augusta, ME; The Farnsworth Art Museum, Rockland, ME; The Chewonki Foundation, Wiscasset, ME; The 19th National Exhibition, Fall River, MA; The College of the Atlantic, Bar Harbor, ME;  Bowdoin College, Brunswick, ME;  L'elan Vitale, NY, NY;  and The Ward-Nasse Gallery, NY, NY.

In addition to studio work and teaching, Professor Ambrose has been active in national and international lectures and presentations. He was a presenter at The Second Canadian-American Conference, St Mary's University, Halifax, Nova Scotia; The Southern Humanities Council 56th Annual Conference, Athens, GA; The New England Teacher's Conference, Springfield, MA; and The Interlochen Center for the Arts, Interlochen, MI.

He was awarded a NYNEX Grant for "Excellence in Teaching", and The Monhegan Artists Residency, Monhegan Island, ME.

Professor Ambrose has participated in numerous public and private commissions and has work in collections in Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts. Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Vermont.
