Kelly McConnell, Assistant Professor + Director of Art Education Outreach
Kelly McConnell is an Artist and Art Educator who has lived and worked in the Portland area since 1995. She holds a BA from Gettysburg College, MFA from Maryland Institute, College of Art, and a K-12 Art Education Certificate. Kelly is an Assistant Professor in MECA’s Art Education Department and Director of Art Education Outreach. Locally, Kelly is frequent collaborator with SPACE Gallery, where she was the Art Director of their longest running children's’ educational series “Lunchbox,” PARC (Portland Area Reggio Collaborative), and the Institute for Contemporary Art. Kelly uses her active studio practice, as a painter, to inform her classroom pedagogy, a hallmark of MECA Art Education Department’s “Artist as Educator” philosophy.
Kelly’s most recent publication was as a curriculum author for Look at ME: Reading Art and Stories with the Portland Museum of Art, which has been awarded the 2007 Excellence in Published Resources Award by the American Association of Museum’s Standing Professional Committee on Education.
