Application Procedure for Post-Baccalaureate Art Education Certificate Program:
Applications received before March 1 will be given priority consideration.
To initiate the application process, candidates for admission must submit the following:
1. A completed application or online application.
2. A non-refundable $40.00 application fee, payable to MECA.
3. A resume (education, employment history, exhibitions, publications, honors, etc.).
4. Transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended. Applicant’s acceptance will based on his/her meeting or exceeding the following criteria: B.F.A. or an equivalent degree, which includes 30 semester hours in art studio and 12 semester hours in art history, and an overall grade point average of 2.8.
Interested applicants who do not meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to consult with the program coordinator, as it may be possible to meet the requirements by completing coursework through MECA's BFA program or another undergraduate program.
5. Three letters of recommendation, written by professionals who have had direct experience with the applicant. Letters should address the candidate’s ability to work independently and to contribute to the learning community, as well as the candidate’s potential to become a visual arts educator.
6. An artist’s statement that situates the applicant's work within a cultural, contemporary, and historical context.
7. An essay, of at least 500 words in which you describe your background in the visual arts, your interest in teaching in the visual arts and your interest in studying for a post baccalaureate certificate in art education at the Maine College of Art.
8. A writing sample, in which the applicant demonstrates skill in critical analysis of art. For example, a paper written for art history class.
9. A portfolio on CD, of at least 20 digital images of recent work presented in PowerPoint (JPEG resolution must be between 200-300 dpi), which demonstrates a range of ability in drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, and/or another art medium.
