Classes for Credit
Credit for completion of Continuing Studies courses is offered in the form of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in our adult program. One CEU is issued for ten hours of class participation. You will be sent a statement of CEUs earned after you complete a course. Participants do not earn CEUs or credit in youth program classes, with the exception of the Pre-College program. Students who complete the Pre-College program earn 4 academic credits.
Transcripts
Official transcripts are available at no charge upon written request to the Continuing Studies Office.
The Non-Degree Student program
The Non-Degree Student program is intended to serve students who are not seeking a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree but want to further their education in the arts, liberal arts, or art history. If you are a community member wishing to take BFA courses for enrichment you may be able to be accepted as a Non-Degree student.
As a Non-Degree student you are able to enroll in 100 and 200 level undergraduate classes. Students may enroll in 300 or 400 level classes with the permission of the instructor. Other pre-requisites may apply.
You may enroll in two classes (6 credits) per semester, up to a maximum of five undergraduate classes (15 credits) in your course of study. If you choose to continue your studies in the undergraduate program beyond 15 credits, we welcome you to apply to the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program. Non-degree students have access to the studios required by their coursework and can benefit from a limited number of student services.
MECA is committed to supporting its students to further their education in the arts and has dedicated institutional grants for Non-Degree students. With a grant, the total cost of a three-credit course can be as low as $1500, exclusive of studio fees. For information on how to apply to the Non-Degree Student program, please call the Admissions Department 207-699-5026.
