Associate Professor of Interdisciplinary Studio and Theory
Iain studied Philosophy and Architecture. His practice and research addresses a diverse arry of questions that range from re-thinking the status of the human, to the development of counter-publics. Projects have included developing a micro-bacteria laboratory, opening restaurants, performance works, and a center for urbanistic research. In addition to an individual practice he is part of spurse (a transdisiplinary collective), that word which means smuggling across borders, incorporated (a corporation dedicated to sartorial concerns), and an architectural collective. He has also collaborated with a number of artists including: William Pope L., Mark Dion, Cesare Pietriosti, J. Morgan Puett, Yacov Sharir, and Bartow+Metzgar. Recent projects have been based at Mass MoCA, Abington Art Center, Indianapolis Museum of Art, University of Venice, and the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum. In addition Iain has lectured widely (including Harvard, Columbia University, James Madison University, RISD, and the University of Venice). Recent writings and collaborations have appeared in a number of journals and books: ARTL!ES, Third Floor, Western Front and Chain.
