ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF CONTINUING STUDIES
Maine College of Art invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Continuing Studies.

CONTINUING STUDIES AT MAINE COLLEGE OF ART (MECA)
The Continuing Studies Department at Maine College of Art offers open-enrollment courses for professional quality study in the visual arts for diverse members of the general public. Classes cover a wide range of topics in the visual arts. Continuing Studies also runs study abroad programs, youth programs and a four-week intensive pre-college program in the summer.

POSITION SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Director of Continuing Studies is a full-time twelve month staff position. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Continuing Studies with a special focus on youth programs. The position involves working with a wide variety of internal and external constituencies; including faculty, art teachers, students, and parents. It requires excellent communication skills and a strong team approach. It also requires some evening and weekend responsibilities throughout the year. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities include:
+ Directing the Pre-College Program: Pre-College is a four-week residential arts program for high school students. The Assistant Director is responsible for all aspects of running Pre-College: S/he develops the curriculum; manages the budget; hires and supervises the faculty, staff and Pre-College Coordinator; recruits and admits students; manages financial aid awards; and works with the Coordinator of Housing and the Café General Manager.
+ Managing Saturday School and Art Camp youth programs: In cooperation with the Director, the Assistant Director develops programming and marketing strategies and builds relationships with art teachers.
+ Working with the departments of Admissions and Public Relations to ensure effective recruitment for youth programs and youth program scheduling.
+ Ensuring the accurate and appropriate presence of Continuing Studies programs on MECA’s website and initiating other web based initiatives.
+ Working as an integral part of the Continuing Studies team by counseling students, registering students in our database, helping to develop policy, generating statistical reports, assisting in catalog production, and helping to produce events and exhibitions.
+ Maintaining the departmental mailing list and overseeing mailings.

QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelors degree is required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in program management and development, academic administration, and experience in the visual arts. Excellent and efficient computer skills are required, and experience with database software is preferred. The position demands maturity and good judgment, as well as the ability to work independently and to be able to handle multiple priorities and deadlines. The ideal candidate will be attentive to details, well organized, be a creative problem solver, and have the ability to work effectively with colleagues.

ACCOUNTANT

The Maine College of Art in Portland Maine seeks candidates for the position of Accountant. The position is full-time, salaried and benefits eligible. The Accountant performs varied and regular accounting tasks to support the business of the College including, but not limited to: producing monthly financial reports, preparing monthly journal entries, executing reconciliations and creating schedules for the annual audit. The Accountant functions as a member of the Business Office, reporting to the Director of Finance. The Maine College of Art is a dynamic, student-centered environment. The successful candidate will have strong customer service skills, strong computer skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues in the Business Office and across the College.

Qualifications:

3 to 5 years of accounting experience

BBA or higher

Prior experience in higher education with a working knowledge of academic administrative software and relational databases desirable. 

Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Excel. 

Good communication skills, with close attention to detail, ability to prioritize multiple functions, and to work well across departments with the flexibility to respond to a dynamic, service oriented environment.
