James Dustin 1981, Graphic Design
For the last seven years I have been designing and building small architectural pavilion models which are then photographed outside with views of the surrounding landscape taking up the open spaces of the models. The paintings and drawings are then constructed based on the photos.

The Pavilion Models investigate the principles of pure space and are designed to present clean empty space, un-encumbered by any of the architectural program considerations of daily use. One of the main considerations in the design of the Pavilion Models is the play of light o the spaces and the contrasts of light and dark. The views of the landscape and cityscape that take up the counter spaces and views through the models are also important.

Most all of the paintings in this presentation were done in Greene County and the surrounding area. Many of the framed views are of the Hudson River and the northern Catskill Mountains.
