Satoru Nihei '02
Satoru lives in Fukushima, Japan and graduated from MECA with a degree in Graphic Design with Honors after earning a degree in Painting from Musashino Art University in Tokyo, Japan. He has worked as a design intern and graphic designer for C2, LLC, in Belfast, Maine, as a research assistant for Deliberate Design in Portland, Maine, and as a graphic designer and production assistant for Saru Brunei Co., Ltd. In Tokyo, Japan. In 2003 he participated in "Project M, The Bielenberg Institute at the Edge of the Earth" (described as "The secret program to inspire the best young graphic designers in America") in Searsport, Maine and in 2002 he studied at MECA’s Maine Summer Institute in Graphic Design. He has spent almost three years designing the typeface featured in the Alumni/ae Exhibition 2003, after originally being inspired by MECA faculty member and typographer Mark Jamra to create his own typeface.
