Susan Bickford MFA '01
Susan Bickford earned her BFA and her Bachelors of Industrial Design degree at Rhode Island School of Design. She says, "My work is a conversation across many disciplines. I am a new-media performance artist using my live body, voice, projected video, sound and environment as media. I make installations and perform from within them. I often begin my creative process from a personal story or event. . . my work is currently exploring desire and intimacy in terms of electronically mediated communication." She has enacted numerous performances, installations and presentations, including a solo installation at Northwestern Connecticut Community College Art Gallery, a collaborative performance at Space Gallery in Portland, a commissioned collaborative performance at the University of New England Art Gallery and a performance lecture at the University of California, Riverside. She also hosts an annual invitational performance art multimedia event with over 40 artists each summer in Yarmouth, Maine, called "In My Backyard." She was awarded a Clarion Premiere Designer award in New York City in 1989 and her work has been written about in the "New York Times" as well as numerous local publications.
