2004 BFA AND MFA EXHIBITIONS
Maine College of Art (MECA) invites the public to view
the BFA and MFA degree candidates' final work in their thesis
exhibitions. Opening receptions will be held on at 4 pm
on Sunday, May 16.
The BFA Thesis Index will be exhibited at the MECA's Institute
of Contemporary Art (ICA at MECA), 522 Congress Street.
Degree recipients will exhibit a selection of thesis work
in their major. The index was curated by seniors Sage Lewis
and Natalie Larsen. Thesis projects are developed during
the student's final semester and are based around one concept
or theme. Majors include Ceramics, Graphic Design, Metalsmithing
& Jewelry, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture,
Self- design, and for the first year New Media. This year's
final projects range from furniture design, installations,
logo and collateral material development, and interactive
new media. In addition, seniors will be exhibting on the
first three floors of the Porteous building.
The MFA Thesis Exhibition will be on view at Portland Yacht
Services, 58 Fore Street. An opening reception will also
be held on Saturday, May 15, at 6:30 pm. The MFA program
requires each degree recipient complete twenty-four months
of rigorous study. The studio portion of the thesis, which
will be on view, is developed as a product of the MFA candidates'
academic research and studio practices. This year's theses
include work in photography, new media, film, painting,
installation, collage, and drawing.
All events are free and open to the public. ICA at MECA
and Baxter Building regular hours are Wednesday - Sunday
11am - 5 pm, Thursdays until 7 pm. The 9rd Commencement
Exercises will take place at Merrill Auditorium on Sunday,
May 16, at 2 pm. For more information, call Maine College
